We looked for a long time until we found an apartment we love at Hillcrest Arcadia. The location is great and the spacious open corridors and grounds make this place like no other. When we bought, our plan was to live here for quite some time, so we renovated extensively.

We chanced upon Hillcrest Arcadia in 2010 after driving down the long and picturesque Arcadia Road in search of a parking spot. We were immediately captivated by the serenity, lush greenery, ample facilities and wide expanse of the apartment grounds. Jen and I got married in 2009, bought our home in December 2010 and have had two kids (and 2 cats) here since. We have renovated our apartment twice, and firmly believe this is our dream home in Singapore!

The first time we drove on Arcadia Road, we knew this is where we wanted to have our home. 25 years have passed, we are still here, and we still love this place. It's hard to to find another place like this, so spacious with full facilities; tennis courts, squash courts and a swimming pool that isn’t crammed. Hillcrest Arcadia is unique, it’s green, it’s quiet, it’s exclusive, it’s so close to the city, and within walking distance to the beautiful Botanic Gardens!

Our flat has an en suite bedroom on the same level as the main living area with doors wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair,  if necessary, in future and we have room for a live-in helper as well.

The outdoor space available to us here at HA and the Heritage Road is a bonus as we will not be overbuilt ever.  We also enjoy keeping a pet and this is additionally advantageous to good health.

We enjoy the fact that we are not so close to our neighbours that we are in each other’s pockets and therefore have good relationships with them.

We have lived here for 16 years.

When I moved to the UK for a four-year stint in the 1990s, having lived in Singapore all my life, I recall looking at the old buildings all over London, wondering why one of the world’s greatest capitals couldn’t afford to pull them down and erect newer ones in their stead.

It was only later, when I was invited to visit friends in their homes, that I realised that the interiors of these old buildings tend to be thoroughly renovated and modernised. These apartments contain an element of charm, a connection between the past and the present, and a sense of time and place and belonging.

This left a big impact on me. When it was time to look for a home, I – subconsciously or not – rejected the soulless modern apartments that my hapless estate agent showed me. The process took many many weekends of viewings over two long years. Then, hidden in plain sight, sat Hillcrest Arcadia, situated within 2km of my previous three homes. I fell in love straightaway with the sprawling grounds, the immaculate landscaping, the unique split level layout. The unblocked views sealed the deal. Much to my agent’s relief!

My partner and I then spent a small fortune doing the place up to our exact specifications and needs. (Apologies again to our patient neighbours for all that hacking and dust!) Hillcrest Arcadia is where we work (we have our home offices here), where we sleep, and where we entertain. In the short three years that we have lived here, we have established countless friendships and formed permanent, fond memories.

I have been living at Hillcrest Arcadia on a few occasions and recently since 2016  August . When my children were young, it was a safe place for my children to play and swim. I love the convenience of the shops nearby and I am able to get everything I need within a 2 km distance . I walk most days at the Botanic Gardens and having the gardens so close is such a gift.  I entertain a lot and my guests are always taken up by how quiet and peaceful it is at Hillcrest Arcadia, where else can you get such a view from the dinner table.

Being able to live in our beautiful, quiet apartment with these amazing green views has value to us.  Living in a well built, well maintained condo with great facilities and great neighbours has value to us.  This is our "bird in the hand"!  We are privileged to live in this beautiful estate, it is irreplaceable!

The enclave of Hillcrest Arcadia where nature lies,

Verdant greenery, trees of yore,

Abundant chirpings, nature’s music.

The brilliance of the setting sun.

When night falls, the silence speaks to you,

In stillness, in peace, you rest.

And when the light of dawn peaks,

The resident rooster calls

“ Arise, a new day is yours,

you have been blessed with a home at Hillcrest”.

I have enjoyed living in HA since 2006.  I love my home, it’s wonderfully kept gardens, my balcony, a big kitchen, and spacious bedrooms, all of the things that you don’t get in the new apartments.

Even my pets enjoy the view!

I have lived in Hillcrest Arcadia for almost 30 years. This is not just a Home, it’s MY SANCTUARY. Here’s why:-

Situated in an almost cul de sac is this wooded estate with mature trees which attracts migratory birds and squirrels.

Vehicular access is via the National Parks Board Heritage Road of Arcadia Road with trees on both sides forming a canopy over the road. A RARITY IN A CITY STATE.

Each time, I go to Changi or Tuas, I am grateful that PIE entrances are only 2 to 3 mins away. IT MAKES GOING TO AND COMING BACK FROM CHANGI AIRPORT SO MUCH MORE PLEASANT.

Within approximately 30 mins walk, I repeat, walk are

SINGAPORE ONLY UNESCO HERITAGE SITE – SINGAPORE BOTANICS GARDENS, MACRITCHIE RESERVIOR, BUKIT BROWN CEMETERY

WHETHER YOU ARE A NATURE WALKING ENTHUSIAST, A SHORT/ LONG DISTANCE JOGGER OR A HISTORY BUFF, COME AND ENJOY WHAT I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING FOR PAST 30 YEARS.

The Bohemian atmosphere of Hillcrest offers a wide variety of F&B outlets. 73@ Hillcrest offers a no hold barred guitar jamming and singing session on Thursday nights. Artisanal breads and pastries at Baker and Cook are ‘to die for’. ALL THESE WITHIN 15MINS FROM THE REAR GATE.

NO NEED FOR TRAFFIC JAMS TO ORCHARD ROAD OR MARINA BAY SANDS. Neighbours are generally nice. THE NOISY ONES GROW TO ADAPT TO THE TRANQUILITY OF THE PLACE.

WHERE ELSE CAN YOU FIND ALL THESE AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE IN SINGAPORE?

HA is home for me having been resident for almost 20 years. I have been enjoying the luscious greenery and beautiful matured trees on the condo grounds, with the serenity and quietness without traffic noise.

Birds like hornbills, flower peckers, sunbirds, wild fowl etc that regularly visit our estate shows how close nature is to us. Even sunbirds, flower peckers and butterflies are also regular visitors to my balcony.

Also the unblocked amazing views of the skyline from my balcony testifies God's awesome creations.

HA is also blessed with a heritage road that allows us to walk under good shade from the old preserved trees. In the night, one can breathe in the fresh scent from these trees when walking along the heritage road.

I don't think one can find an estate like HA with its unique setting that is so close to nature.

We cannot see ourselves living elsewhere at this time. What Hillcrest Arcadia offers all of us is truly unique and can't be found elsewhere. Trust us: We looked for 6-months before deciding on Hillcrest Arcadia. The large units, greenery, open spaces, quietness, privacy, and facilities are a combination you can't find anywhere else. We guarantee you won't find anything like Hillcrest Arcadia.

We have lived here close to 25 years. It is a joy for me to drive daily through that tree  lined stretch on Arcadia Road that invariably I simply offer a silent prayer of thanks for this gift of creation. I am not biased, friends who visited my home have expressed wonder too. It is therefore not surprising that our government has gazetted this road as heritage land, one of the few such spots to be protected.

So in land scarce Singapore, this is a valuable piece of priceless real estate.

We are one of the few estates of this size that do not  hire third party to run the estate on our behalf. We hire our own people to run the office, the estate manager plus essential staff.

There is time to enjoy living here and still making a smart investment decision.

If this is an investment asset, you have no problem renting it out ( this is one of the top 10 sought after estate that tenants want to live here). This property will hold its capital value.

Cherish this gem of a treasure.

My house hunt took six months before I found Hillcrest Arcadia.  What matters is travelling into Arcadia road feels like a journey into an “enchanted” forest and H. Arcadia is like a hidden treasure waiting to be revealed.  What matters is an expansive, green space, far from the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to it for easy access.  What matters are a culturally diverse community of residents and the  workers who take care of our domain. What matters are the views from my home, views that seem to go on forever.

Cab drivers who come to H. Arcadia for the first time have told me that this is an uncommon place, a rare find in a built-up city.  I reply that I agree, that H. Arcadia is infinitely better than all the places I have inhabited and seen on this island,  that the old is often better than the new, that my wish is for H. Arcadia to remain for a long, long time.

Everything that makes Hillcrest Arcadia stand out from the other condominium estates in Singapore have already been extolled by many here.  And they couldn’t have said it better.

Hillcrest Arcadia is home to me for close to 30 years. It is not a transient stopover before I up stick and relocate back to my home country. It is also not a business opportunity.

Arcadia was an ancient Greek concept of an idyllic and pastoral calm. Our estate reflects that with its peace and quiet amongst an increasingly crowded and urbanised Singapore. It is something we should enjoy and fight to maintain.

For me life-style is always paramount.
